Colton Cowser
Colton Cowser Played with broken ribs
Tue, Oct 7, 2025, 1:15 PM
Cowser was diagnosed with two fractured ribs after colliding with the outfield wall during a June 12 game against the Tigers, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner reports.
Analysis: Cowser missed three games with what the Orioles referred to simply as general soreness at the time, but the outfielder has now revealed that he had a more serious diagnosis. While Cowser homered three times in the first four games after returning from the rib fractures, he finished the season slashing a disappointing .196/.269/.385 with 16 homers and 14 steals over just 92 contests. Cowser also missed time with a fractured thumb and a concussion, but he entered the offseason with a clean bill of health.
Jose Barrero
Jose Barrero Returns on minor-league pact
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 8:52 AM
Barrero agreed Thursday to a new minor-league contract with the Orioles, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis: Barrero split time in 2025 between the Cardinals and Orioles organizations and appeared in 22 games at the big-league level, all of which came with St. Louis. After being dropped from the Cardinals' 40-man roster in late June, Barrero elected free agency and caught on with the Orioles on a minor-league pact. He proceeded to spend the rest of the season at Triple-A Norfolk, slashing .190/.261/.344 with eight home runs and nine stolen bases across 218 plate appearances. While his new minor-league deal could include an invitation to major-league spring training, the 27-year-old utility man should be viewed as a long shot to win an Opening Day bench role with Baltimore.
Adley Rutschman
Adley Rutschman Viewed as top catcher over Basallo
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 12:35 PM
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Monday that Rutschman remains "front and center" as the organization's top catcher, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Analysis: Though Baltimore signed Samuel Basallo to a $67 million extension in August, the 21-year-old is regarded as a bat-first prospect who won't yet be entrusted to handle a full-time catching role in the big leagues. Basallo instead projects to see most of his reps at first base and designated hitter in 2026 while occasionally mixing in behind the plate, so long as Rutschman maintains health. When available this past season, Rutschman continued to provide value defensively, but his offensive production continued its downward trend from his 2022 rookie campaign. Over 365 plate appearances in 2025, Rutschman turned in a .673 OPS and supplied underwhelming counting statistics (nine home runs, zero steals, 37 runs and 29 RBI) in his 90 games. Set to turn 28 in February, Rutschman still has time to regain his prior form at the plate, but investing in him in 2026 fantasy drafts may require some blind faith on the part of fantasy managers.
Grayson Rodriguez
Grayson Rodriguez Will ramp up throwing in October
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 12:34 PM
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Monday that Rodriguez (elbow) will begin ramping up his throwing program in October, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Analysis: Rodriguez missed the entire 2025 season due to multiple issues with his pitching arm and eventually had a right elbow debridement to remove a bone spur in August. Barring setbacks, Rodriguez is expected to be ready for the beginning of spring training. Even if he stays healthy in 2026, Rodriguez is likely to have some workload restrictions in place following a lost season.
Tyler Wells
Tyler Wells Expected to be in 2026 rotation
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 12:17 PM
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Monday that the team plans for Wells to be a starting pitcher next season, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Analysis: It's possible Wells opens next season in the bullpen if the Orioles make multiple high-impact starting pitcher acquisitions this offseason, but the righty set himself up well to be a member of the 2026 rotation after collecting a 2.91 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 18:2 K:BB over 21.2 innings in four September starts following a return from UCL revision surgery. Because he's totaled just 62.1 frames over the last two seasons, Wells' workload will likely be monitored closely in 2026.
Heston Kjerstad
Heston Kjerstad Receiving treatment for medical issue
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 12:10 PM
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Monday that Kjerstad has been undergoing treatments for a medical condition, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Analysis: Kjerstad last played at Triple-A Norfolk on July 25 due to what the team had described as fatigue. Elias declined to say whether the treatments were related to myocarditis, a condition Kjerstad was diagnosed with shortly after being drafted in 2020, which delayed his professional debut until 2022. Kjerstad has responded well to the treatments and is expected to be ready for spring training. It's possible Kjerstad's medical issue affected his performance in 2025, as he slashed a woeful .192/.240/.327 in 54 games for the Orioles and an even-worse .149/.225/.248 over 27 contests with Norfolk.
Kade Strowd
Kade Strowd Wraps up year with scoreless outing
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 9:06 PM
Strowd threw one-third of an inning in relief Sunday against the Yankees.
Analysis: After the Orioles began a fire sale ahead of the July trade deadline, Strowd joined the major-league bullpen and gave Baltimore some quality work to close out the year. Through 26.1 innings, the right-hander posted a 1.71 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB with five holds. It remains to be seen if the club will bring Strowd back for 2026, but he certainly made a good impression down the stretch.
Samuel Basallo
Samuel Basallo Resting for season finale
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 12:58 PM
Basallo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Basallo will be rested for the season finale after he made starts at catcher and designated hitter in the first two contests of the series, going 0-for-7 with five strikeouts. Unless he's called upon off the bench Sunday, Basallo will finish out the 2025 campaign with a .165/.229/.330 slash line to go with four home runs, 15 RBI and 10 runs across 31 games with the Orioles. Despite a rough showing in his first big-league stint, Basallo is locked in as a cornerstone piece for Baltimore after inking an eight-year, $67 million contract with the club in August.
Jeremiah Jackson
Jeremiah Jackson Idle for season finale
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 12:56 PM
Jackson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: With Tyler O'Neill picking up his second start in right field in three days, Jackson will hit the bench for the second time this weekend. Unless he's called upon as a reserve, Jackson will wrap up the campaign with a .276/.328/.447 slash line, five home runs, 21 RBI and 20 runs across 183 plate appearances with Baltimore.
Coby Mayo
Coby Mayo Swats 11th homer
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 6:39 PM
Mayo went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: The rookie spoiled a combined shutout bid for the Orioles' AL East rivals when he took Paul Blackburn deep in the eighth inning. Mayo has a mediocre .694 OPS over 291 plate appearances on the season, but the 23-year-old is ending the campaign on a high note as he stakes a claim to the starting first base job in 2026, batting .410 (16-for-39) over his last 14 games with four of his 11 homers on the year.
Tomoyuki Sugano
Tomoyuki Sugano Rocked in final 2025 start
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 6:35 PM
Sugano (10-10) took the loss Saturday as the Orioles fell 6-1 to the Yankees, giving up four runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- over 4.1 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.
Analysis: The 35-year-old righty tossed 48 of 73 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, but Sugano may have been catching too much of the plate -- Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Ryan McMahon all took him deep in the first two innings. Sugano lost his last five decisions to put his first North American season in the books, with his last win coming Aug. 14, and over 157 innings for Baltimore he posted a 4.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 106:36 K:BB.
Carson Ragsdale
Carson Ragsdale Joins active roster
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 11:56 AM
The Orioles recalled Ragsdale from the Florida Complex League on Saturday.
Analysis: After being claimed off waivers from Atlanta on Thursday, Ragsdale will now rejoin the Orioles to give the big club an extra reliever for the final two games of the regular season. The 27-year-old has only one MLB appearance under his belt, during which he coughed up eight earned runs over three innings.
Cade Povich
Cade Povich Optioned to FCL
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 11:53 AM
The Orioles optioned Povich to the Florida Complex League on Saturday.
Analysis: Povich made his final start of the season Thursday and will finish his second MLB season with a 5.21 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 112.1 innings spanning 22 appearances. He'll now head to the Orioles' spring training facility to finish up his regular-season duties, and the team will bring up Carson Ragsdale to provide extra bullpen depth.
Dylan Beavers
Dylan Beavers In Saturday's lineup
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 10:54 AM
Beavers (shin) will start in left field and bat fifth against the Yankees on Saturday.
Analysis: Beavers was forced out of Friday's game after he fouled a ball off his right shin, but he won't have to miss a start due to the incident. The 24-year-old has begun his MLB career on a high note since joining the big club in mid-August, slashing .240/.383/.423 across 129 plate appearances.
Adley Rutschman
Adley Rutschman Out of lineup
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 10:49 AM
Rutschman isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Rutschman has gone just 1-for-11 in four games since returning from the injured list, and he'll now receive a day off while Samuel Basallo starts behind the plate and bats eighth.
Grant Wolfram
Grant Wolfram Back in majors
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 9:44 AM
The Orioles recalled Wolfram from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Analysis: Wolfram will rejoin the Orioles for the final two games of the regular season to replace Dietrich Enns (paternity). Wolfram, 28, has posted a 4.85 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through 26 innings with the O's this year and will likely be limited to middle-relief duties to close the season.
Dietrich Enns
Dietrich Enns Placed on paternity list
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 9:42 AM
The Orioles placed Enns on the paternity list Saturday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Analysis: Enns will be permitted to return to the team for Sunday's series finale, though his move to the paternity list will likely spell the end of his 2025 campaign. If so, he'll finish with a 4.08 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 46.1 innings between Detroit and Baltimore. Grant Wolfram was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.
Jordan Westburg
Jordan Westburg Clubs 16th long ball
Fri, Sep 26, 2025, 10:23 PM
Westburg went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: The Baltimore third baseman tallied his first homer since returning from an ankle injury Sept. 16 with a three-run shot off New York starter Will Warren in the third. This marks the 10th time Westburg has notched three or more hits in a game this season. Overall, the 26-year-old is now slashing .266/.314/.453 with 58 runs scored and 40 RBI over 344 plate appearances.
Trevor Rogers
Trevor Rogers Pummeled in the Bronx
Fri, Sep 26, 2025, 9:52 PM
Rogers (9-3) took the loss in Friday's contest against the Yankees, allowing six runs on three hits and three walks over three innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: The Baltimore southpaw's run of brilliance finally came to an end, as he allowed more than two runs for the first time since June 18. Rogers was undone by the long ball, coughing up multiple homers for the first time in 2025. The 27-year-old wraps an utterly fantastic season, pitching to a 1.81 ERA, 2.82 FIP, 0.90 WHIP and 103:29 across 109.2 frames.
Dylan Beavers
Dylan Beavers X-rays negative
Fri, Sep 26, 2025, 9:21 PM
X-rays on Beavers' right shin came back negative following his removal from Friday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Analysis: Beavers left Friday's contest after fouling a ball off his shin during the fourth inning, but he didn't suffer any fractures as a result of the incident. He can be considered day-to-day for now, but there's no guarantee he plays again this season with just two games remaining on the schedule.
