Cade Povich
Cade Povich Making rehab start Thursday
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:59 AM
Povich (hip) is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Analysis: Povich has been shelved since mid-June with left hip inflammation but has been cleared to pitch in a rehab game. If all goes well, the southpaw might require just the one rehab start before rejoining the Orioles' rotation next week against the Rangers.
Brandon Young
Brandon Young Falls to Texas
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 8:14 AM
Young (0-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Rangers, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out two.
Analysis: Young managed to hold Texas to one run through his first three innings before giving up a two-run homer to Josh Jung with two outs in the fourth. The 26-year-old Young has struggled to a 7.11 ERA with a 1.97 WHIP through his first three starts (12.2 innings) with Baltimore. He figures to return to Triple-A Norfolk following Wednesday's spot start.
Jorge Mateo
Jorge Mateo Ramping up activities
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 4:26 PM
Mateo (elbow) told reporters Wednesday that he has participated in all baseball activities and is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Analysis: Mateo reported to Norfolk on Tuesday while continuing to build back up from left elbow inflammation that caused him to be placed on the 10-day injured list June 10. Mateo sported a .510 OPS with 14 steals, three doubles, one home run and three RBI in 65 plate appearances with the Orioles prior to landing on the IL.
Ramon Urias
Ramon Urias Back on bench in Westburg's return
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 2:31 PM
Urias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Urias had started at third base in each of the Orioles' last six games and went 3-for-22 with two home runs, one walk and three RBI, but he'll likely move into more of a part-time role moving forward with Jordan Westburg (finger) rejoining the lineup after a three-game absence. The Orioles still have an everyday lineup spot available while Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) is on the injured list, but interim manager Tony Mansolino will likely mix and match with Urias, Dylan Carlson and Coby Mayo rather than committing to one player to fill the opening.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Getting evening off
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 2:27 PM
Laureano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Dylan Carlson will check in for Laureano in right field while the latter player gets his first day off since June 16. While starting in each of the Orioles' previous eight games, Laureano went 7-for-29 (.241 average) with one home run, five RBI and five runs.
Jordan Westburg
Jordan Westburg Makes return to lineup
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 2:27 PM
Westburg (finger) will start at third base and bat second in Wednesday's game versus the Rangers.
Analysis: Westburg missed each of the previous three contests due to a sprained left index finger, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Wednesday's series finale. The 26-year-old has gone 0-for-13 with eight strikeouts over his last four games.
Yaramil Hiraldo
Yaramil Hiraldo Sent back to Triple-A
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 12:51 PM
The Orioles optioned Hiraldo to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
Analysis: Hiraldo didn't make any appearances out of the bullpen in his latest stint with the Orioles, which lasted just three days. His removal from the 26-man active roster frees up a spot for right-hander Brandon Young, who was recalled from Norfolk to start Wednesday's contest versus the Rangers.
Brandon Young
Brandon Young Recalled to start Wednesday
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 12:49 PM
The Orioles recalled Young from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
Analysis: Young will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers. The right-hander won't be fully stretched out, as he just recently returned from a shoulder issue at Norfolk and threw 65 pitches in his last outing. Young is likely in line for just one start with the Orioles, so he will likely be optioned to Norfolk within the next couple of days.
Gary Sanchez
Gary Sanchez Brutal defensive night in loss
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 8:43 AM
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: While the 32-year-old flexed his muscles by taking Chris Martin deep in the seventh inning to get the Orioles on the board, Sanchez arguably cost his team more runs than he created. Texas went 5-for-5 on steal attempts against the backstop, including three by Sam Haggerty after he entered the game in the eighth inning as a pinch hitter, and Sanchez also struggled to protect the plate -- the Rangers' first run came when he couldn't corral a Ramon Laureano throw in the fourth inning as Corey Seager scored from second on a single, and the game-winning run came when Sanchez was a heartbeat slow to tag Evan Carter on a fielder's choice. Sanchez has gone 5-for-15 with five RBI in five games since Adley Rutschman (oblique) was sidelined, but his hold on the starting job could slip if his defensive work remains subpar.
Charlie Morton
Charlie Morton One rough inning in no-decision
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 8:35 AM
Morton didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Rangers, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: The veteran righty held Texas in check for four of his five frames, but he was lucky escape the fourth inning with only three runs on his ledger, as some shaky Baltimore defense kept the snowball rolling after he issued a leadoff walk to Corey Seager. The three strikeouts were Morton's lowest total since a relief appearance May 10, and over six starts since rejoining the rotation, he's gone 4-0 while posting a 2.90 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB through 31 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which lines up to be a rematch with the Rangers next week in Texas.
Tyler O'Neill
Tyler O'Neill Progresses in rehab assignment
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 4:34 PM
O'Neill (shoulder) had his minor-league rehab assignment moved to Double-A Chesapeake on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Analysis: O'Neill began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on June 7 before being shut down with renewed soreness in his left shoulder. The outfielder resumed playing with High-A Aberdeen on Sunday, going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. He has now reported to Chesapeake for the next step in his recovery from a left shoulder impingement, and O'Neill will likely head to Triple-A in the coming days for his final destination before potentially returning to the major-league roster. O'Neill has been out since May 18, having posted a disappointing .188 average with two home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases over 80 at-bats in 24 games with the Orioles before going down with the injury.
Colton Cowser
Colton Cowser Taking seat Tuesday
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 4:30 PM
Cowser is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Analysis: Cowser started the previous eight games and had a .943 OPS with three homers during that stretch, but he'll take a seat against Texas lefty Jacob Latz on Tuesday. Dylan Carlson, Cedric Mullins and Ramon Laureano will start from left to right in the outfield for Baltimore.
Jordan Westburg
Jordan Westburg Likely back in lineup Wednesday
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 4:24 PM
Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that "all indications" are that Westburg (finger) will be ready to return to the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Analysis: Westburg will miss a third straight start Tuesday with a sprained left index finger. There's a chance the Orioles will hold him out Wednesday with an off day looming Thursday, but Mansolino said Westburg will "definitely" play Friday, if not before.
Jacob Stallings
Jacob Stallings Lands with O's
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 4:07 PM
Stallings signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Analysis: Stallings was cut loose by Colorado in early June after posting a .396 OPS through 93 plate appearances. He'll now get a chance to bounce back with the Orioles, though he will have to do so while serving as organizational depth at Triple-A Norfolk.
Terrin Vavra
Terrin Vavra Joins taxi squad
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 1:46 PM
Vavra has been added to the Orioles' taxi squad, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Analysis: The Orioles expect Jordan Westburg (finger) to avoid the 10-day injured list, but if he doesn't recover as quickly as hoped and ultimately goes on the IL, Vavra will take his roster spot. The utility player is a career .254/.331/.304 hitter over parts of two big-league seasons.
Brandon Young
Brandon Young Likely drawing start Wednesday
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 1:43 PM
Young has been added to the Orioles' taxi squad and is likely to start Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Analysis: The Orioles would like to give their regular rotation members some extra rest, so Young will be up to make a spot start. Young has permitted six runs with a 9:8 K:BB over 8.2 innings in two starts with Baltimore this season. He recently returned from a shoulder injury at Triple-A Norfolk and threw 65 pitches in his last outing, so he won't be fully stretched out Wednesday.
Jorge Mateo
Jorge Mateo Rehab assignment on tap for Tuesday
Mon, Jun 23, 2025, 10:59 PM
Mateo (elbow) is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Mateo is entering the final stages of his recovery from left elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old speedster has a chance to rejoin Baltimore's roster before the end of June, but he should be able to return in early July at the latest. Mateo primarily served as a pinch runner and defensive specialist prior to going down, having slashed .180/.231/.279 with one home run, three doubles, three RBI and 14 stolen bases over 65 plate appearances.
Jackson Holliday
Jackson Holliday Racks up four RBI
Mon, Jun 23, 2025, 9:29 PM
Holliday went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Monday's win over Texas.
Analysis: Holliday opened the games scoring with an RBI double in the third inning and blew it open with his three-run blast in the fifth. It was his ninth home run of the year and first since June 6, snapping a 14-game drought. He bumped his season slash line up to .265/.313/.422 with 23 extra-base knocks and 31 RBI through 294 plate appearances.
Trevor Rogers
Trevor Rogers Twirls gem for victory
Mon, Jun 23, 2025, 9:15 PM
Rogers (1-0) allowed three hits over eight shutout frames Monday, striking out four and earning a win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Rogers was outstanding Monday, sprinkling three singles across eight scoreless frames. He let only one runner reach scoring position and had a string of 14 consecutive batters retired. Rogers was efficient, with 72 of his 101 pitches being strikes. He's struggled with his command throughout his career but has walked just three batters through 16.2 MLB innings this season. Rogers owns a 1.62 ERA and likely earned himself another turn in the rotation, which is lined up to be this weekend at home against the Rays.
Heston Kjerstad
Heston Kjerstad Cleared to return
Mon, Jun 23, 2025, 6:25 PM
Kjerstad (knee) went 0-for-4 in Sunday's game against Triple-A Memphis.
Analysis: Kjerstad was out of the lineup for a few days over the weekend after fouling a ball off his right knee, but he's managed to avoid a trip to the 7-day injured list. The Arkansas product was demoted to Triple-A on June 10 and is batting .167 with one home run, two RBI and three runs scored in five games since.
